Mobiles excite the brain

Might be a problem
Tuesday, 27 June 2006, 08:58
ITALIAN boffins have worked out that mobile phones excite the part of the brain nearest to the telephone.

However, according to their study, which has made it into popular tabloid mag the Annals of Neurology, the researchers are unclear if an excited brain is a bad thing.

Paolo Rossini, of Fatebenefratelli hospital in Milan and his colleagues, used Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to check callers' brains while they used their phones.

After using the phones for 45 minutes, twelve of the 15 cells in the part of the brain showed excitability during phone use. The excitement ended when the person hung up.

The concern is that people who suffer from brain cell excitability, such as those with epilepsy could be affected by mobile phone use.

It is also unclear what long term problems an excited brain might bring. More here. ยต
