Appro releases Opteron F servers

SERVER FIRM Appro said it will show off a range of its Xtreme Servers using the new Opteron cores at Linuxworld. The machines will start shipping by the end of the month.

The 1U system uses two Opterons supporting 64GB of DDR2 memory, a terabyte of S-ATA memory, and with one PCI-X and one PCIe X16 slot. These machines are aimed at supercomputing clusters.

The 3U machine will support four Opterons, 128GB of memory, 3TB S-ATA or 876GB SAS hot swap drives, two PCIe X16 and three PCI-X slots, redundant power supplies and fans.

The firm gave no details of pricing. µ
