Asustek does 3G phones with Qualcomm

Three in the bush

TAIWANESE GIANT Asustek Computer has started developing 3G handsets using Qualcomm 3G chips, "market sources" have told Digitimes.

They say Asustek's first Qualcomm-based 3G phones will be launched by the end of the year.

The phones will be the first fruit of a licensing agreement Asus signed with Qualcomm recently.

Asustek also builds phones using platforms developed by Marvell and Ericsson and so becomes the first handset maker to have fingers in three pies, if you'll excuse the mixed digital metaphor. ยต
