Best socket 939 mobo reviewed

Hardware Roundup Plus network peripherals
Sun Dec 04 2005, 13:11
DIGITAL DAILY published a review of network peripherals from Hawking Technology. The router, the USB dongle and the PCI adaptor are included in that review. As one might guess there was no real surprise. Hawking Technology remains firmly in the bargain bin department with prices to match.

Sysopt shows to everyone how to convert a notebook drive into a portable media player. Notebook drives are better suited because of their size and lower power consumption. The Vantec Avox jukebox is the one considered. If you think that this is a glorified 2.5-inch laptop drive enclosure, you might just be right. It comes with a remote control, can upscale low resolution video to full screen but does not include a screen. You have almost all necessary IOs except for S Video.

BIOS Magazine tests the Sony VPL-CX76 3LCD projector. This business class video projector comes with its own laser pointer/slide navigator but has a native resolution of only 1024x768, which might have been enough except that this one costs around £1200. Business users will love the fact that it comes with wireless networking capability and a memory stick slot. But you won't like the low contrast, its lack of digital inputs and the cost of the replacement bulb.

The Abit An8-SLI motherboard offers the best that the Taiwanese company has to offer in terms of overclockin and cooling. You get the uGUru overclocking and system monitoring chip, Q-Otes heatpipe silent technology, Audiomax sound system - everything being based around the nForce 4 SLI chipset which compose its backbone. The board is tested by Bit Tech. Problem is that there is competition for that board coming from Abit's rank. As usual search well before you buy.

Hardwarecentral reviews the Sharp Widenote M4000 laptop. Geared primarily at female users, it offers better than average display and keyboard. The casing is made up of aluminium and it packs a lot of storage punch with a 80GB hdd and an integrated optical drive. You still get the usual Pentium M, 512MB, wireles bundle. Autonomy is quite good at more than 200 minutes and overall, it makes a very good widescreen lighter than usual laptop.

Phoronix reviews the Tyan Tomcat K8E-SLI S2866. Tyan forms part of the Trio of server motherboard manufacturers which normally rule the world. Today's motherboard is based on the nForce Professional 2200 which is a pro version of the Nforce 4 with SLI. It comes with Dual LAN controller, Realtek sound modules and Firewire controller. Phoronix has found that motherboard to be the best socket 939 motherboard they've tested which goes a long way to say that the K8E is special indeed. µ
