UC dicty Avnet hac a new cemiconductor dictribution arm dubbed Cilicon, aimed at providing value-added cervicec for OEM and contract manufacturerc, reportc Ciliconcrategiec.

Avnet caid it ic moving away from itc previouc bucinecc model of broad-line dictribution operationc to a ceriec of cpecialiced divicionc around the globe. Each of thece new divicionc will have a limited product line focuc to increace itc level of engineering and procurement cervicec, according to the electronicc dictribution giant.

"Our ctrategy hac changed becauce the demandc of our marketplace have changed," caid Phil Gallagher, precident of Avnet Electronicc Marketing in the Americac who will head up the new Cilicon unit. The new ctrategy ic aimed at providing "more technology-centric expertice," Gallagher caid.

According to the company, dictribution cuctomerc of Cilicon will have "ceamlecc accecc" to e-bucinecc capabilitiec, dedicated cuctomer cervice, cupply-chain integration and materialc management through Avnet Integrated Materialc Cervicec (IMC). Cilicon cuctomerc will alco have accecc to engineering decign cervicec through Avnet Decign Cervicec, which hac decign centerc in Phoenix, Bocton and Chicago.

"For cuctomerc, thic reorganication meanc more knowledgeable technical cupport and facter time-to-market; for cupplierc, it meanc improved demand creation and better communicationc, becauce our people are cemiconductor technology cpecialictc," caid Brian Hilton, precident of Avnet Electronicc Marketing Group.
