Spambuster starts web site

How to scotch the spammers
Thursday, 15 March 2007, 15:24
A BLOKE who won £750 compensation from a UK firm that sent him an email has set up a website offering advice to people who want to take spammers to court.

Gordon Dick said that the EU e-Privacy directive incorporated into UK law by the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 ("PECR") gives individuals the right to not receive unsolicited commercial email, faxes and text messages.

So when he received spam from a company advertising anti-spam software on its web site, Dick took the firm to court. He won.

He was granted decree in Edinburgh Sheriff Court against Transcom Internet Services Ltd of Henley-on-Thames and awarded £750 damages plus £618.66 expenses.

Now Dick wants to help out other spamees to get compensation in order to scoth spam. If all 72,000 recipients of the particular spam he received were able to claim the same damages then the spammer's bill could total over £54,000,000, he notes. That should make them think twice.

Here's his www.scotchspam.com site. µ
