SEARCH ENGINE outfit Google is worried that it will make the same mistake as Microsoft and get shafted by Washington politicians.

According to the Washington Post the outfit is spending a fortune to set up a lobbying base in Washington.

Google fears it could be caught like the Vole was a decade ago when Redmond was so disdainful of the federal government it had no lobbyists in Washington. Many feel this was the reason they were shafted by a government antitrust lawsuit.

Goggle lobbyists not only work their magic on boosting the company image, they also spend a lot of time setting politicians onto their rivals.

This week its lobbyists were behind an antitrust complaint to the Justice Department and other government authorities asserting that Microsoft's new Vista operating system discriminates against Google software, the Post said.

Google has 12 lobbyists and lobbying-related professionals on staff in Washington which is more than double the size of the standard corporate lobbying office.

Among the people hired are Robert Boorstin, a speechwriter and foreign policy adviser in the Clinton White House, and Jamie Brown, a White House lobbyist under President Bush. µ
