New York Times hides terror article from Brits

On legal advice
Tuesday, 29 August 2006, 13:11
AN ARTICLE ENTITLED "Details Emerge in British Terror Case" appeared on the New York Times web site yesterday. Residents of the British Isles couldn't read it, however.

The Times said it adapted advertising technology to keep the piece from British eyes on legal advice.

On the redirected page that Brits were served up if they clicked on the story, the newspaper said: "On advice of legal counsel, this article is unavailable to readers of nytimes.com in Britain. This arises from the requirement in British law that prohibits publication of prejudicial information about the defendants prior to trial."

You may or may not see the message by clicking here.

British subjects holidaying in the United States are advised not to buy yesterday's paper. We're not sure what went on in overseas British territories like Canada, Australia Gibraltar.

Here's the NYT explaining itself. ยต
