AMD cuts Athlon XP prices

Making room for the Athlon XP 2400+
Tue Aug 13 2002, 12:46
IN A MOVE, we imagine, to make room for some of its new Athlon processors, AMD has cut the price of some of its chip offerings by up to a quarter.

The latest pricing of the Athlon XP 2200+ 1.8GHz 266Mhz, for example, fell from around $200 yesterday to closer to $150 today, a squint at AMDZone's Pricegrabber suggests.

And chip companies never cut their prices for no reason. It may be the silly season and demand may be slack, but the chances are an Athlon XP 2400+ is just around the corner.

AMD is keen to introduce its 333MHz FSB Athlon XPs as soon as possible and sources suggesting to us that a September launch date is likely seem closer to the mark as the latest price cuts hit. ยต
