Social notworking site releases child's personal data

Whoops

SOCIAL notworking site Reunion.com is in hot water after publishing personal details of a four year old boy.

The problem came after the outfit bought a huge database from a private supplier.

Jane Yang, a 30-year-old marketing coordinator, found that not only had the site identified her husband, but had handed out details of her son.

Using the site it was possible to find the boy and tail him to his house.

"That made me really, really angry and really worried," Yang told the LA Times. "I'm scared about predators out there."

Reunion.com's privacy policy says the site "prohibits registration by and will not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under 13."

Jeff Tinsley, Reunion.com's chief executive, said he was just as stunned as Yang. He had bought the data from a databroker but told them not to supply information from anyone under 18.

So far no one knows how the details wound up in the database supplied to Reunion.com. It was thought that the information came from State medical records but that is denied by the Oregon Public Health department. ยต

Common practice in the US, EU is next

"The problem came after the outfit bought a huge database from a private supplier."

And the EU is sharing all information they have about EU citizens with the US? Am I the only one concerned about this? What are the pussies in the European Parliament doing?
