What do you call an 8800GTS that isn't?

8800GTS, apparently

THE UPCOMING RESPIN 8800 GTS has been spotted out in the wild. Based on the same G92 core as the 8800 GT that's been getting such good reviews, this is basically the same thing but with 128 shader processors instead of 112 and some tweaked clocks.

You can spot the pics right here.

VR-Zone reckons that the card is due to launch on December 3, which could well be true, but there are so many itty-bitty releases happening in the next two months it's not like Nvidia is going to put its stake firmly in the ground for this kind of product.

Interestingly, the new GTS has a two-slot cooler, indicating that this is perhaps about as far as the G92 core is going to get in terms of performance. How far Nvidia's legion of partners will be able to factory overclock seems up in the air at the moment. µ

8800...

8900 anyone... hello nvidia?
Why we now have FOUR 8800 GTS cards on the market is beyond me:
8800GTS (320MB)
8800GTS (640MB)
8800GTS (640MB, 112SP)
8800GTS (512MB, 128SP)

In they refreshed the 7 series, they just changed the 78xx to 79xx. But no, doing the same thing would actually mean having similar naming conventions between generations; a practice apparently forbidden at nvidia.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
