Father of Playstation retires

Ken Kutaragi's final bow
Fri Apr 27 2007, 10:18
KEN KUTARAGI who unleashed the Playstation on the world, announced his retirement from the position of chairman and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, a division that is currently going through a rough period.

To us, it seems that nothing hurt Kurtagi more than a 12-month delay in development of PlayStation 3, and not exactly brilliant sales results.

Kutaragi's retirement may have been hastened by public blunders such as Sony Computer Entertainment America chief executive Jack Tretton's "Show me a PS3 in store and I'll give you $1200", jibe that Penny Arcade treated thus.

Kutaragi also lost the battle with Kaz Hirai for the title of CEO of the whole of Sony, and now it seems nothing remains but that Ken serves some time as a honorary chairman and before being sent off to the green pastures of CEOs gone astray. µ
