AMD has dreams of three more factories

LOCAL NEWSPAPER The Times Union said AMD told locals at a nosh-up last night it could open as many as three factories in the Luther Forest Technology Campus.

Earlier this week, the same paper reported that AMD was not sure whether it would press ahead with building one in the Luther Forest Technology Campus.

But over small talk and liqueurs, AMD's manager of wafer manufacturing told surprised diners that it may well open additional fabs in the area.

It has to make a decision to start digging next year or the year after, otherwise a grant from New York State of $650 million will expire.

While Intel has got a new slogan called "Tick Tock", AMD's approach is called "Asset Light", so we'll find out soon enough whether the chat is just the chip firms Tocking through their Assets. µ
