Open saucers fear Yahoo-Microsoft merger

Windows everywhere
Tuesday, 5 February 2008, 08:45

THE MUCH-TOUTED Microsoft and Yahoo merger might be bad news for the development of Open Sauce.

Cnet's Roy Schestowitz has been looking at how the merger will harm the software industry and is quite convinced that it will be bad news for GNU/Linux Users.

Yahoo has been working quite closely with Open Saucers lately and arranged workshops and provided funding to Free software projects such as KDE, WordPress, and Drupal.

However if the Vole takes over these projects could be drained of finance and become deader and less well acted than the final battle scene in 300.

Yahoo uses a lot of Open Sauce software and this is likely to be replaced with VoleWare.

One of the targets will be Zimbra, which Yahoo bought about a year ago. It was supposed to be a a rival for Microsoft Outlook, Exchange, and parts of the " Live"-branded services.

Yahoo's FreeBSD-powered servers are almost certainly going be switched off, Schestowitz thinks.

I wouldn't worry about it

Does the phrase "cutting off your nose to spite your face" come to mind? If Microsoft sabotages any part of Yahoo in these ways, they'd just be degrading the value of what they're spending all those billions to buy. It would be a stupid waste of their money.

Quite entertaining to watch, though, as all the conniptions add to the delays with Dimdows 7...

No worries...

FLOSS has nothing to fear from Microsoft taking over Yahoo. In fact they have lots to celebrate - it shows M$ are getting very desperate.
FLOSS may loose a small amount of funding but thats a small drop in a very large ocean - and it did seem to fund replacement parts for M$ software - which the world is slowly realising was the completely wrong way (for anyone other than M$) to go.
Using a computer to emulate an 'Office' is sooo 1980's. Using a computer to improve your company is sooo Non Microsoft you wouldnt believe it. And it works!!!

Ridiculous claim...

Using OS for over a decade from small to large scale projects. There is no relation to Yahoo/MS whatsoever. But hey - if it brings in ad revenue just keep spinning the turd.

Hmmmm.....

Well I'll tell ya if MS does buy Yahoo then I will go @anything else but MS .... I'm sure many will do the same.

This may cause me some minor short term problems like re-submitting my resume to a plethora of places and emailing everyone in my contact list but hey any time MS has taken anything over they ruin it with theire .... MUST PROTECT MY INVESTMENT SO I WON'T ALLOW ANYONE BUT US TO "TWEAK" IT, cough cough, IMPROVE IT!!!!! .... Modo they do with everything.

Cheers
