LG Philips goes green as others turn livid

ROHS habit
Thursday, 29 June 2006, 10:52
LCD MAKER LG Philips said it has been accredited as a testing laboratory in line with the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) regulations springing into life all over €uropa.

This means that LG Philips, with the imprimatur of the German accreditation organisation EU TUV SUD, can bang out machines that meet the stringent demands.

Other manufacturers may not be so fortunate. The regulations apply to all sorts of toxic substances, including lead, and this further complicates SKUs (stock keeping units) that some vendors will hold.

For example, it's apparently OK to belt out mobos full of toxic substances to non EU countries but the penalties for doing so inside the Union can be severe.

As we noted here, this directive is stumping a lot of Far Eastern vendors.

Other vendors, like Intel and AMD, have been producing plumbum free products for quite a while. µ
