Materna pushed MMS envelope @ CeBit

Anny Way helps O2 users see any Webcam pics
Wednesday, 12 March 2003, 11:38
MOBILE COMMS SPECIALIST Materna was determined to show the power of MMS here at CeBit with a bunch of MMS related announcements. It has been able to annnounce that British mobile operator, O2, will be providing at least two new MMS services to its customers.

The first is MMS Cam which will enable anyone with an ordinary Internet Webcam to send stills straight to an MMS enabled mobile phone. O2 is the first customer for MMS Cam and it is also taking a Java based product from Materna.

The O2 Newsreader will enable it to create news content in MMS format using a standard Web based editor. Not only will this make MMS news immediately deliverable but it will also allow O2 customers to tailor the news feed to the preferences. The service will be shown at CeBit via Materna's own Anny Way MMSC (MMS server).

Another MMS application on show is an MMS based restaurant guide which uses voice commands to provide users with the right information. Sounds just like a rival service from Responsa.

Materna's other claim to fame is that it provided the MMS client for a SmartPhone 2002 device from Compal shown recently at 3GSM Cannes. µ
