Sharp's 108 inch LCD priced out of the market

SHARP WILL START PEDDLING its 108-inch LCD TV in the US but if punters are thinking about saving up for it, they should have started putting aside $1,000 cash each year 185 years ago.

Sharp’s LB-1085 LCD TV is already on sale in Europe with prices starting (shouldn't that be startling?) at about $185,000.

Pricing in the US is probably going to be about $150,000. This is more than double what the current biggest flat screen TV on the market, Panasonic’s 103-inch plasma, will set you back at a very reasonable $70,000.

What is really surprising about the technology is how basic it really is. Other than its size there is nothing novel. Resolution is 1920x1080p, the brightness 400 cd, the contrast ratio 1200:1 and the response time 6 ms.

So the only place most of us will ever see one is on MTV's Cribs. µ
