Thieves chloroform victims in massive CPU heist

$12 million worth of kit goes west
Tuesday, 21 November 2006, 07:37
A GANG OF CROOKS stole 18 pallets of CPUs and motherboards in a daring and dangerous heist in Penang.

The chips are worth over $12 million, according to a report in local newspaper The Star.

The chips and boards were made by a "multinational company" in Bayan Lepas, the report said. AMD has an operation in Bayan Lepas, but so also do Intel, Motorola, and others.

The report said 20 crooks arrived in two container trucks and chloroformed 17 people in the Maskargo cargo warehouse in Batu Muang. Anyone resisting was hit with sticks.

The newspaper thinks that the chips have already been distributed abroad with prices cut by 20 per cent in an illegal channel network.

There's more, here. ยต
