Mobile phone surveillance firm loses server

Taping firm is burgled

THIEVES HAVE stolen a server which contained information gathered by taping into mobile phones, text messages ad even emails sent via Blackberries.

According to the Mail on Sunday, Forensic Telecommunication Services (FTS) lost the server from its offices in Sevenoaks, Kent.

UK Police forces used to use the services of BT to gather forensic evidence from mobile phones but now they use a specialist such as FTS.

The company describes itself as a world leader in recovering evidence from mobile phones (including their SIM cards); hand-held devices (such as Crackberries) and other telecoms equipment.

Evidence gathered in such a way is used to place the accused at the scene of the crime. Which is why the INQ previously suggested it would be daft to sell mobile phones for cash at airports.

FTS has, of course, claimed that, "none of the data stored on the stolen server in any way compromises ongoing police operations."

There's plenty of speculation as to who exactly wanted to steal the information held on the server. More on this story here. µ
