Cheap as chips laptop adds a zero
AN INDIAN EDUCATION MINISTER is a bit red-faced this morning after getting his numbers wrong. What he announced as a $10 laptop will actually cost a much more feasible $100.
This embarrassing mistake had to be rectified after a speech made by one D Purandeswari at a conference in Delhi stated that the laptops would only be $10, when the government would in fact be adding a zero to that amount.
The Indian government has teamed up with two leading education and research institutions to try and come up with a cut-price laptop for students. Now, either someone made a typo on the cost of these machines – or they realised this was just an unreachable goal.
The Indian government is yet to provide any information on the specifications of the laptop, or indeed whether the price would include a subsidy from the government.
