FORMER AMD venture Spansion, currently the world's biggest pure-play provider of Flash memory, has announced that it has sealed the sale of its JV1 and JV2 manufacturing plants in Japan.

The highest bidder was Fujitsu Limited and subsidiary Fujitsu Semiconductor Technology which dished out $150 million in cash, presumably in a briefcase delivered by scary men in black suits. Spansion products will still be fashioned at the plants under the terms of the agreement, says the company.

Spansion's going to invest the dosh into its new SP1 300mm manufacturing facility in Japan's Aizu-Wakamatsu, the company has announced.

President and CEO of the company, Bertrand Cambou says that he and his company are looking forward to working with Fujitsu as a foundry partner, and thus he spun: "This agreement enables us to focus our capital on leading-edge technologies, provide flexible supply in times of peak demand while continuing a long-term and stable supply to our customers." He went on to say how great everything was and detail how soon the sun will shine out of all Spansion employees' orifices. µ
