Nvidia specs huge PSUs

Only six PCIe connectors
Wednesday, 11 April 2007, 14:05
ONE NEW TIDBIT came out of our meetings with PSU people, namely specs for the upcoming generation of power supplies.

You know about the 8-pin PCIe connector, and now the new 8-pin connector, what you probably don't know is how many of each you're going to need.

It seems that Nvidia has specced out top-of-the-line power supplies as needing four of these 8-pin connectors, new variety, and two of the older six-pin versions. This would allow for either six PSUs, or three with two 8-pin connectors each.

This means the firm finally got the drivers for quad-SLI working, or they are planning to up the power to an absurd degree. Given that the Nvidians still can't make a fully-functional Win MeII driver yet, much less one with SLI, we will go with the driver borked scenario delaying quad-SLI.

In any case, you should not have much of a want for PCIe connectors in the near future. Mains power on the other hand might be more problematic. ยต
