ATI's X1550 will replace X1300

A new old chip
Wednesday, 6 December 2006, 14:53
ATI has been super successful in the entry level market that we like to call low end. It sells a lot of X1300 based cards as customers don't really like Nvidia's efforts in this area. ATI is massively using this advantage and for the n-th time it is about to change the names of the chips.

It will release X1050 and a new one called the X1550. This will basically take the place of the X1300 cards. We think that this is more of a marketing game than any real change.

The whole generation will have a suffix ending in 50. The high end is the X1950, mid range is X1650, entry level is X1550 and the low end chip is X1050. Quite interesting and for the first time it is not as confusing as it usually is.

The cards us RV515 and 516 chips. ยต
