Gainward to launch 6200 AGP 512MB

I GUESS THAT mentioning ATI's 512MB card has got Nvidia's partners ears pricking up. ATI is using its high end cards of the X800 generation and adding some additional memory on it, while Nvidia chose to do it with a much cheaper 6200 based card. Nvidia will have its 6800 Ultra 512MB versions and Alienware already offers them.

Gainward will lead with its 6200 AGP 512MB card. It will call it the Gainward PowerPack! Pro/1490 TV-DVI and will have it available soon for not too much money.

We are not talking about a Turbo Cache card as this marchitecture won't work on AGP cards. So much memory comes from the fact that memory chips for 6200 are not that expensive and that it will sound cool to have cheap card with 512MB of RAM. It's called Marketing. Most of the people I know still judge graphics card by the amount of memory included. It's a very simple logic where the 512MB card is better than a 256MB one, in real life it's not always the case as 6200 AGP 512MB won't be faster than a 6600 GT with 128MB of RAM.

We guess that this card will be powered with the Nvidia NV44A native AGP chip. The Gainward card will cost around €129-€149 including local VAT, and will make it price attractive to many graphic lovers. Everyone would like to have a 512MB card, there's no question about it.
