Corsair releases FB DIMM 2 GB memory

Full buffet of memory for Intel servers
Tuesday, 5 December 2006, 11:48
TODAY is the day for new memory. Corsair has just introduced the Fully Buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM) memory clocked at DDR2 667MHz speed. This memory is designed for Intel Xeon based platforms and AMD would not touch this memory with a barge pole.

The memory comes in 2GB packages and it wont be cheap. That is what Intel wants for its server and workstation market and Jedec already gave the stamp of approval for this memory. The memory is also fully buffered, which is something you definitely need for servers.

The FB-DIMM memory marchitecture allows two channels to read and write in parallel by the memory controller. It also provide simpler interconnections and is designed to provide memory bandwidth with up to six memory channels and eight dual run memory modules per channel. That means there is a lot of space for memory upgrades.

Corsair FB-DIMM is 240 pin Buffered Dual Inline Memory Module with Ultra high density using 512 MBit SDRAM chips. It supports CRC and ECC error detection and correction, Advanced Memory Buffer (AMB), JEDEC standard 1.5V high speed differential point-to-point link, Four-bit prefetch architecture, Off-chip driver (OCD) impedance calibration and On-die termination (ODT). That's a lot of marchitecture for a single memory module.

It also fits in low profile 1U rack mount servers as its only 1.2" tall. You can buy one or two GB modules and they come with a lifetime warranty. µ
