All around the hardware hat

Hardware Roundup

WHAT WITH the furore last week over Half-Life 2, you'd be forgiven for thinking that nothing else was happening in the tech world.

You might not be far wrong if you looked at some of the big-wigs. HardOCP have their HL2 performance feature over here, and have some interesting apples to apples benchmark comparisons. Anandtech has similar fare right here. Both these sites decided not to use the ATI-provided benchmark demos, quite wisely. Manufacturer supplied demos != credibility.

My homies over at bit-tech have come up with an in-depth review of the GeForce 6600 on AGP. It looks like a stonking card that should be at home in the systems of a great many gamers. Have a read of that by y'ere, and we promise to get back to reviewing thumbscrews very soon.

John Chow always hosts the best CES parties, and we're looking forward to hanging out with the most laid-back chap in hardware when we head out to Vegas in January. In the meantime, we've been busy reading his review of the Bluetooth Intellimouse.

Miffed at the different AMD form factors? The chaps at OCWorkbench has a review of an ASRock board that features both 939 and 754 sockets. The intruige is thattaway.

The Ace of Spodes is known for his nimble fingers (and stunning good-looks), so it's not surprising that his online abode has reviewed a rather fancy-pants gaming keyboard, this way.

Everyone's favourite Antipodean hardware site, TweakTown, has a shootout of 3 different X600XT cards, here.

If you fell foul of the ad-attack from the Rogister this week, you might be very interested in this article on Ars Technica, which details spyware removal tools.

We always enjoy reading hardware coverage over at Ryszard.NET (aka Hexus), because the boy Sommerfeldt has quite a talent for the stuff. You can check out his musings on Nvidia's SLI technology here, and you can send email suggesting he gets a pay rise here. µ

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
