TDK makes hard drive head breakthrough

Device will record massive amount of data
Thursday, 12 May 2005, 10:26
A REPORT SAID TDK has created a hard drive magnetic head which can wrote between 150 and 200 gigabits data per inch.

According to nikkei.net, TDK will be able to mass produce the heads as early next year and is aiming the device at small form factor drives and for DVD recorders.

The report said TDK has used a tunnelling magneto resistance device using perpendicular recording.

A 3.5-inch hard drive platter, for example, could hold as much as 250GB of data with the new magnetic head technology.
