Power toys showed off at Computex

Computex 2006 Chargers and strips

TWO POWER RELATED items caught my eye running around before the show, a charger and a power strip. The only thing they have in common is electricity and being interesing.

First up is the Ritek Solar Sunny S1000 portable solar recharger. It is a solar panel with a USB out, and will deliver 200mA at 5V across the USB connector. It also can charge AAA batteries, delivering 300mA at 1.5V. When you are far away from civilization, this could be a really nice thing to have at your side.

Next up was a toy I found at a booth in the middle of setting up, the company appears to be called Ahoku. They make all kind of power plugs, strips, widgets and toys, but there was one that stood out. It wasn't labeled, but damn did it look interesting.

OK, it is just a power strip, but isn't it neat? I have a Power Squid and like it a lot, but this is nifty in a whole new set of ways. I am starting to think that you can't proudly display your geek credentials unless you have both somewhere on your network. Either way, they come in just about every countries physical plug format, so get one now, no matter where you live. µ

Do you think the move was justified?
