Dolly Parton barely heard on mobiles

While Queen is top of the pops

A MUSIC survey carried out for Vodafone has found that very few Brits – about five per cent - listen to country music on their mobile phones. Queen- by contrast – appears to provide the favourite live music tracks.

Apparently, artists like Dolly Parton wouldn't have done even that well overall except for the fact that the country and folk music star's popularity rises to 10 per cent when a relationship ends. D-I-V-O-R-C-E.

The research – carried out by Tickbox.net – is a thinly disguised attempt by Vodafone to pump up is recently launched Musicstation service which 'rents' tracks out to mobile phones.

Much of Vodafone UK’s survey is quite predictable, although the figure of 13 per cent of all people accessing music via their phones is impressive.

No surprises for guessing that amongst 16-24 year olds that figureises to 33 per cent. But how about this? 33 per cent of all ages in Northern Ireland listen to music on their phones while the figure for London is a mere 15.6 per cent. People from Yorkshire scored pretty highly, too.

Curiously, classical music is the preferred option for people who are working or studying or preparing for a job interview while chart music is top for shopping and travelling.

But anybody who travels on a train could have told you that anyway. How many times have you asked a fellow passenger to turn his Debussy down? µ
