Vista proves a disaster for gamers

Hardware Roundup Wrapper lets penguin play games
Thursday, 5 April 2007, 14:33
WE BEGIN TODAY'S roundup with something more soft than hard. Phoronix fathomed the depths of Transgaming Cedega 6.0, also known to Penguin-lovers as "Swordfish". This software wrapper enables owners of Linux desktop to play the latest computer games from the wicked world of Windows.

If you're asking yourself, why linux? Head over to HardOCP and read its experience after surviving 30-days of Vista.

Bjorn3D tested ASUS EN8800GTX AquaTank, a water cooled 8800GTX and got some interesting results. If you want to test your Italian, our friends over at HWUpgrade.it took MSI's own water-cooled 8800GTX for a spin. MSI one is one of rare non-reference 8800 products on the market, and given the overclock score, you can conclude they did a good job.

In the value graphics department, Chris Tom took a look at EVGA's e-GeForce 7600GS 512MB. Since 8500/8600 are coming to market sooner that most of people think, we could not recommend this card. Even though 8500/8600 is not without problems. Something that we would recommend though, is a review of OCZ PC2-7200 Gold memory.

TechGage tested Saitek's X-52 Pro Flight Control System. Being a flight nut myself, this HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) is one neat product, but the quality of manufacturing will just make owners of smaller planes cringe. This is a first grade HOTAS unit.

Hardware-breaking people from SysOpt could not believe that they didn't managed to break Ultra's 800 Watt power supply, so they went back to their own ways and tested Icy Dock e-SATA hard-drive enclosure for four hard drives.

Ultra could not stay of out today's roundup, since RBmods tested Ultra Grid Computer case that comes bundled with XVS 700W power supply. An interesting product indeed. PC-Treiber.Net stayed in the land of Foxconn, probably being only site on the net that has access to Foxconn motherboards on a regular basis. This time, these guys tested two Foxconn P965 motherboards.

Virtual-Hideout found some aliens, or at least SunbeamTech wanted them to believe in that. UFO Acrylic case does not leave much for imagination, but puts excellent view on the components you paid dearly. Sadly, only thing that you are not warned about is the fact that this thing will show the dust as well, and this is something you cannot walk over - how acrylic cases look after three weeks of 24x7 usage is beyond belief.

BIOS Magazine tested Demon Office Hub, an interesting VoIP product that comes at a interesting price. This is a combination of Billion's WiFi ADSL Router and Demon Voice over Broadband package.
