Five hi-tech nuns in a boat

Faith in IT and a tugboat

FIVE NUNS are paddling down the Ohio River in a wooden boat an in a re-enactment of a voyage made by the Ursuline Sisters 130 years ago.

In 1874, five Ursuline Sisters sailed along the Ohio River 155 nautical miles on a flatboat from Louisville to Owensboro to build a school. That school, Mount Saint Joseph, still exists.

According to Wave 3 the sisters will be living on the boat and cooking food they have grown themselves, just like the Ursuline sisters.

The only difference is these sisters are kitted out with the latest laptop armed with a wireless connection, global positioning system and weather monitor.

The Nuns Sister Amelia, 55, and two others, Sister Pam Mueller, 52, and Sister Elaine Burke, 72, will be sending pictures of their journey of a lifetime to their webpage. While the original Ursuline sisters had to rely on strong currents and the will of God to get them to their destination, their modern counterparts will be pulled by a tug-boat. Still that is post-modern progress for you.

The story can be found here here. µ
