Hardware Roundup Crazy wibble
Monday, 18 December 2006, 09:53
IT SEEMS THAT people are taking the 'silent night' approach to today's roundup with no less than three headphone reviews.

Rbmods has had a look at the very popular SteelSeries SteelSound 4H Headset, popular because they've been covered by the roundup at least twice before, always getting very good results. TheTechLounge has reviewed the Ultrasone iCans Headphones which, while definitely high quality, seem to suffer from some design problems. TheTechLounge has also reviewed the Altec Lansing AHP612 Wireless Studio Headphones which seem to sometimes suffer from bad interference, but if you're lucky enough not to get the interference and you're tired of being tied down, then these are a good buy.

Legion Hardware has been flexing the muscle of the OCZ DDR2 PC2-9200 FlexXLC Edition, the first memory modules to include water cooling, so you can really push these things to the limit.

People interested in water cooling their memory will also want to have a look at the OCZ GameXstream 700W Power Supply Review by PC Perspective. Most importantly it glows blue and it evens seems to be a half decent PSU as well.

WCCFtech has reviewed the far more sedate ASUS A55GA 550W PSU, which provides excellent performance, but won't support a dual graphics setup.

For those of us that don't have water cooling and hate the incessant hum of their OC fans, then check out Hardware.info's Workshop: How to silence your PC for tips of how to surf the interweb in blissful silence.

Tweakers.net has put a Database test: Intel Xeon 'Clovertown' X5355. I'm pretty sure this is a travel article as they keep talking about obscure places like Clovertown, Kentsfield and Tigerton, but I'm assured that it belongs in the hardware roundup so there we have it.

Meanwhile Phoronix has been tinkering with Intel Quad-Core Memory Performance. It transpires that the FB-DIMM memory costs a whack of cash, but will give your servers a noticeable performance boost.

It-review has been going at full steam again to bring us the AM2 MBO Round-up: Part VI as well as the CoolerMaster Stacker 830 review and a review of the Zalman VF900 Cu.

As the Inq pointed out, ATI has released the final set of Catalyst drivers for 2006. On that note, Tweaktown brings us the ATI Catalyst 6.12 Performance Analysis to help us decipher what it actually does. ?
