Of particular note to UK journalists who made it there - and we were pretty thin on the ground too - was that in previous years the PR gannets would thrust party invites into your hand and shower their confetti on you.
Alas, even the spinolas and spinolettes were thin, with racks on the CeBIT press office floor unhampered by releases.
With this in mind, the INQUIRER decided to make CeBIT 2002 awards to the UK PR firms who went that extra mile and actually tipped up.
As there were only two UK PR firms and Rose who made a showing at the show, we've decided to appoint Julian Tanner, managing director of Axicom, and Chaz Brooks, managing director of CBPR, joint number one awards.
Rose comes in at number three, while Text 100, August One, Harvard PR, Beattie Media, and a host of other UK spinolas and spinolettes come away with... absolutely nothing.
The judges decided that it was impossible to decide between Julian and Chaz. Both fed the few UK journalists at the show by dragging them to the enormous fleish und bier tent in the grounds.
For a full list of the PR companies that didn't seem to tip up at SnoBIT 2002, please go here.
This means that Chaz, Julian's and Rose's clients get extra special treatment for the rest of 2002... µ
A HAPPY
Julian Tanner smiles for the INQUIRER schnapperazzi. His firm -
Axicom, has a number of blue and red chip clients including Redhat
and ARM. Warning - if you're sensitive to Macromedia Flash, watch his site.
A DELIRIOUS Chaz Brooks celebrates his award by drinking a stein of bier at the famous but soon to be sold
Bier Halle at SnoBIT. Chaz is one of the best PR bunnies in the business, in the judges opinion. You can find his web
site
here and he has great staying power - popular with both clients and
journos.
