The world plus dog might be confused that a product, which has not even been assembled yet, might be being offered on a discount already. Apparently, Sony is already a bit worried about competition from the much cheaper Wii, and in the US, the Xbox 360.
The original plan was that the console would cost ¥62,790 or $539, depending on which side of the Pacific you were on. However, this price was widely considered as being outrageous.
Sony's latest price tag is ¥49,980 yen or $430.
This is still expensive, but a bit more competitive when you consider it will come with its very own Blu-ray player.
