UK terrified by Xmas shopping chore

And it's not about buying lingerie
Mon Dec 17 2007, 12:05

ONE IN FIVE of us UK buyers are terrified of doing our Christmas shopping – and that’s just the online component.

New research suggests internet security worries are a big deterrent, says UK awareness group GetSafeOnline.org. Managing director Tony Neate said that the bumper £13bn spend this season will attract criminals but warned that offline compromises are still often beyond online problems.

For that reason, users should not give credit cards to waiting staff to take away at restaurants. Neate added that online users should adopt belt-and-braces approaches such as using a separate card for online purchases.

And if you’re worried about shopping online this Christmas, remember that the high street and precinct aren’t the safest places these days either. Merry Christmas! µ
