CHIP FIRM Intel was accused by Pegasus Imaging of stepping its great big Chipzilla like paws on its trademark.

The firm said late Friday that Intel kicked off a Google adword campaign using the trademark "Pegasus" and "Pegasus Imaging" in the headline.

Pegasus said the advert linked to Intel web pages that sold its integrated performance primitives, which compete with its Pic Tools compression and decompression libraries.

Said Jack Berlin, who rides Pegasus as its CEO: "I was disappointed to learn Intel was intentionally using Pegasus Imaging's registered mark to promote its own image compression technology." He said the advert indicated Intel had bought Pegasus Imaging.

Plus, to rub salt into the wound, Berlin claimed it supported Intel by optimising image compression code for its CPUs. "It was very upsetting that Intel caused confusion in the marketplace," he said. "Business is hard enough without this type of behaviour by such a dominant player in the PC arena," he continued.

The firm "Caesar Desisted" Intel and is now claiming damages because of the infringement, because Chipzilla won't tell it how much traffic it got from the campaign. µ
