Intel thinks it might make more money that it thought it would

Third quarter projections up a tad
Mon Sep 10 2007, 04:49
INTEL, A FIRM THAT makes chips, said it expects to rake in more wonga that it thought it might earlier in the year.

The firm said it expected to flog between $9.0 and $9.4 billion worth of products and services in this its third quarter of 2007. Now it says it should easily take $9.4 billion and this may even rise to $9.8 billion.

The outfit said it experienced more demand for its chips that it thought it might.

It gleefully made the announcement of the day AMD launches its quad-core Barcelona chip. Maybe Intel too thought Barcelona would have been launched by now and that's why it adjusted it forecast by half a bill or so.

It reckons its margin should still be around 52 per cent.

We note that in the small print Intel says it still might have got its numbers wrong because, as it notes, it "operates in intensely competitive industries".

It fails to note that it operates a virtual monopoly in most of them, but AMD will no doubt be bleating about that as we write.

Intel should report its third-quarter financial results on October 16th. ยต
