Dow chemical web joke backfires

Thing.net close to nothing.net
Tue Dec 31 2002, 10:40
PRANKSTERS WHO issued a press release purporting to be from Dow Chemical found the joke rebounding on them full steam ahead, Lawmeme reports.

The Yes Men gave a URL for Dow Chemical's web site which was also a parody, but then faced action from the legal beagles which resulted in the Yes Men's ISP removing dow-chemical.com and the whole of activist network Thing.Net, reports LawMeme.

And the Yes Men even had its dow-chemical.com web site snatched because the pranksters registered the name as a relative of Dow's CEO.

He then promptly grabbed the domain back, seeing as it belonged to him...

Here's LawMeme and here's The Yes Men site which says thing.net is now threatened with becoming nothing.net... µ
