Calculate your CO2 usage by phone

A mobile app aimed @ train spotters, obviously
Sunday, 6 January 2008, 12:51

TALK ABOUT wasting tax payers' money, the bureaucrats in Brussels have created a mobile application that helps you monitor your own personal carbon consumption - Mobgas.

You'd have to be seriously sad to do so, though.

But if you're that way inclined type this URL into your phone's browser - http://mobgas.jrc.it/download. The system will work out what sort of mobile handset you're using and sends the appropriate version.

It works with most smartphones but a complete list of compatible devices may be found here.

As part of the download process, you'll have to register on the site first. This is obviously so they can add you to a list of the terminally bored.

The app is free but your mobile operator will subtract the download - (around 146 KB) from your data tariff.

Once you're set up, you can methodically key in every time you consume energy; turn that into a weekly or daily total and pat yourself on the back if you're below the international average.
It beats train spotting, we suppose. ยต
