Angstrom picks up AMD leftovers

ANGSTROM, a Russian semiconductor company, is to acquire from AMD 0.13 micron bulk process technology, according to Russian daily Kommersant. The value of the deal wasn’t disclosed, but the daily places it in the $250-300 million.

The move will provide Angstrom the technology necessary to start churning out their technology on a 0.13 micron process, putting to use the manufacturing equipment it bought off AMD last year. This previous deal involved the 200mm wafer manufacturing equipment from Dresden’s Fab 30, equipment that had been mothballed with the fab’s upgrades.

The licensed technology lacks SOI-sauce, as it was developed prior to the relationship with IBM. It was the last process technology used by the Athlon XP and Semprons before these departed into the great beyond.

Analysts place Angstrom’s own manufacturing process at 0.8 micron with lower capacity 100mm and 150mm wafer sizes. However the new manufacturing tech and processes will allow the company to target the export market at a much more attractive volume and price point.

The location of Zelenograd - where Angstrom is based - is also becoming famous as the “Silicon Valley of Russia”. According to the same newspaper, AFK Sistema, another Zelenograd semi company had already bought $120 million worth of 0.18 micron production equipment from ST Micro this July.

Angstrom manufactures all sorts of processors and microcontrollers (including 32-bit RISC) as well as smartcards and core logic. According to Kommersant, the company’s main customers are (and we expect will remain) precision weapons manufacturers, which sounds naughty indeed. µ

AMD designed time/Charges box that was inserted into touchtone system, before public knew MaBel was large array of businness, mostly private. It seems as technology reached hand held calculator, AMD started making processor making its propieitary 4004&UP, thanks to leadership of late pre foundry founder. 
Now AMD has again gone to chip suppliers whom have even smaller & better process, locked out by stagnation from 70s'. 135Nm is K7, so Not Too Shabby, AMD last propieitary co0mplete run before going to seek Oriental 2ndparty mfg. 

Perhaps true success is: AMD returning to propietary?or unjique manufcturing to hide power design within?(BIG Arab BUCKS Sway Asian Mind?) ole': perhaps AMD is Now very Sharing Company, Now thats' its' Aged & could use Boost? from friends whom now manufacture amd, eg Everyone.

The Intel 4004 is a 4-bit central processing unit (CPU) released by Intel Corporation in 1971. Most people agree that the 4004 is the first complete CPU on one chip, the first microprocessor, a feat made possible by the use of the new silicon gate technology allowing the integration of a higher number of transistors and a faster speed than was possible before. The 4004 employed a 10 μm silicon-gate enhancement load PMOS technology and could execute approximately 92,000 instructions per second (that is, a singular instruction was executed in 11 microseconds).

TisTrue Intel Gripped 4004 in legalAction & almost closed AMD, When Telephoics was less intrest perhaps. Yet true license, AMD made same capable chips. In own way in AMD own factory. In Fact, Hacking Was To understand inside Guts of TV Processor or any X86 as diagrams of arthemetic units, memory units, cache & what all, same as today. 135 Nm process gets to mere 100 million? tranistors, yet for portable radio, why Not.AMD Diging into Intel Turf.
