CHIP FIRM Via said it has released the C7-D microprocessor, which has a maximum power of consumption of 20W and a clock speed of 1.8GHz.

The chip fits into the nanoBGA2 package which measures 21mm x 21mm and includes Via's "Stepahead" advanced branch prediction, and support for SSE2 and SSE3.

It claimed it has a carbon free offset by cooperating with Carbon Footprint Limited.

Via has also released a benchmark called Treemark, for people who want to judge and organise the environmental impact of the computers they buy. µ
