Readers reactions to Phenom trickle in

Phenomanal
Wednesday, 16 May 2007, 11:13
SINCE THE announcement on Monday that future quad-core consumer processors from AMD would be dubbed Phenom, rather than the existing Athlon brand, we've had quite a few readers suggesting some 'better' naming.

For our part, we suggested that Phenom sounded a bit like Femidom or Pheromone.

Andy spotted that Phenom is probably short for Phenomenal, but suggested that the recent careful attention to the brand at AMD might see it renamed Phenom-anal. Lum suggested that PhlegmOn could be more appropriate, given the ongoing 'our Quad is better than yours' tit for tattery, whilst AMD will be surely hoping that the chip brings them in some PhatOnes, as Necro suggests.

One final suggestion from Rog, who quite rightly points out that, since most AMD processors are sold in mum'n'dad Dell boxes these days, perhaps Phenomenial is a better choice. µ
