Paedophiles forced to list web names

That'll stop them
Wednesday, 7 February 2007, 07:32
HOME SECRETARY John Reid has come up with a wizard way of protecting kiddies from online paedophiles.

According to the Beeb, he plans to force paedophiles to list all their web names and email addresses and put them into a big database. If the names appear on the likes of MySpace then the online outfits can shut them out.

The details will be installed on the Sex Offenders Register and even if paedophiles change towns or countries the British will still know who they are.

Of course it is incredibly difficult to change your ISP, email address or onscreen name once you have put one on the Sex Offenders Register. Clearly Reid's scheme would work for those particularly honest, law-abiding, paedophiles who attempt to trawl the Interweb for kiddies using the same name they registered with the coppers.

As it is, the UK's database of sex offenders is proving pretty useless at keeping track of paedophiles. The News of the Screws reported that UK coppers had lost track of 322 convicted sex offenders including one paedophile who had breached register conditions. He told the database that his address was "woods" after moved from "a tent near Guildford leisure centre".
