ATI to stay Fabless

TSMC claims
Mon Jul 31 2006, 10:20
BIG Taiwanese chip manufacturer has issued a statement and claims that ATI will stay fabless and that it still has strong connections with the TSMC. It claims that AMD's acquisition won't change things much.

In the short term we agree, but not in the long term.

Sources close to Nvidia believe that ATI will start making chips in Dresden as soon as possible as AMD has a lot of wasted capacity in that fab and it could start practising with less complex chips.

Long term, TSMC will suffer as well as Nvidia and Intel from this AtiMD deal but we are talking about the rather distant future.

You can check the statement here and we managed to confirm it from a source close to the graphic company. µ
