More layoffs rumoured at HPQ

Carly, Curly file filings

SOURCES INSIDE Hewlett Packard tell the INQUIRER that the firm may make another round of layoffs during 2003.

The cuts, according to the sources, would be on top of the 15,000 announced after Compaq and HP merged, and could amount to as many as 10,000 additional people.

Whether these cuts happen or not, this and recent documents seen by us, suggest that the company currently has a morale problem, as uncertainty continues about who gets a so-called "sunset" letter and who stays, and where.

The human resources department is deshabille, according to the sources, but apparently different folk within the New Age P are graded according to their importance, with IT workers getting the "A" rating (hooray!), while HR people are rated "F" (also hooray!).

Meanwhile, while it appears that HP has still to file its CEO statement which was due on Friday, September 13th, according to the Security and Exchange Commission web site.

The SEC table is here, it seems that the civil servants at the SEC have forgotten to tick the box.

Because Carly's sworn oath is here.

There are still internal discussions on whether to uproot the whole Cupertino complex and bang it down in steamy, humid, and a whole lot cheaper Houston, apparently. µ
