Boffins make breakthrough on blue LEDs

Shine a light on me

RESEARCHERS AT Tokyo University have succeeded in making blue LED components that offer the possibility of replacing conventional lights.

A report at nikkei.net said the bofins have created one centimetre elements which emanate light uniformly across the surface.

Previously, said the report, sizes were limited to 300 square microns, but the breakthrough holds the promise of fabrication blue LEDs of 10 centimetres diameter.

Such elements could easily be coupled together to produce larger lights. µ
