Wants to build the operating system for the flicks
Thursday, 17 August 2006, 08:17
KODAK IS building what it is dubbing an operating system for movie theatres which runs digital content along side operating the lights and heating systems.

The maker of snap photography has been running software that controls more than 2,000 screens in North America for the past two years to manage pre-show advertising, box offices and theatre lighting and temperature.

According to a spokesKodak the aim is to modify this software so that it can handle digital movies. The new operating system can manage all digital projectors and playback systems, Kodak claims.

The system is to be trailed later this year at 60 sites and Kodak plans to market it to the 15 chains that already use Kodak's operating system.
