'Satanic' bar codes snubbed

Passports have something of the devil about them
Thursday, 22 March 2007, 08:27
A GROUP OF religious villagers won't be Russian anywhere after refusing to use the country's new passports because they contain 'satanic' bar codes.

According to Reuters, the village Bogolyubovo, have given the thumbs down to Putin's Passports claiming that they have the number 666 installed in them, somewhere in the bar code.

One elderly resident Valentina Yepifanova told State telly that the passports were sinful and she wanted to keep her old one.

The village has already made a stand against barcodes with some of the elderly refusing to collect their pensions because the payment slips contain bar codes which might also contain the mark of the devil.

666 is the number of the beast in the book of Revelation as opposed to 668 which was the neighbour of the beast.

Some Christian fundamentalists claim that the barcode relates to the anti-Christ but this is the first time that the belief has been seen amongst Orthodox Christians. It is based on an urban myth that 666 is automatically installed into every barcode. ยต
