New PS2 suffers compatibility problems

Silver PS2s have headaches playing games
Fri Oct 21 2005, 11:21
ACCORDING to IGN, the latest PS2 will have a troublesome time with seven PS2 games and as many as 40 PS1 games.

The newest model, satin silver, is due for release in Japan next month, immediately before the Xbox 360 launch there. Aside from the plethora of backwards compatibility problems, there is a list of current gen PS2 games it freezes while playing. The list includes, Gauntlet Dark Legacy, F12002 and the newer Tekken 5.

It looks like Sony is going to face some serious fan feedback. A console having problems with backwards compatibility is one thing but it's something else entirely for a console to have any technical hiccups with running titles made specifically for it.

With any luck this will hurt sales enough for Sony to cop on a little and realise that customers won't put up with problems like these.

All new PS2 models will suffer from the problems and so far Sony has suggested that people wishing to play these games buy an earlier model than the slimline silver version. It sounds a bit Madden to me. ยต
