IBM, Lenovo deal gets green flag

Big Blue has to quarantine Lenovo
Wed Mar 09 2005, 18:59
OBSTACLES IN the way of IBM selling off its notebook and desktop divisions to Chinese firm Lenovo were dispelled today, as a US government committee gave it the go ahead.

Under certain conditions.

The chief caveat is that when Lenovo buys up the IBM PC division, it will have to work behind Chinese walls at Big Blue's offices in Raleigh, which is in North Carolina, America.

Big Blue will have to sell this site to Lenovo under the conditions the US government imposed.

Lenovo will be very happy, but quite possibly IBM will be ecstatic as at last it has thrown off the albatross that it was first responsible for launching into the skies all those years ago.
